450 anniversary of the St. Ignatius of Loyola’s death

Remembering St. Ignatius

The rapidity at which events were succeeded after his death and until his sanctification show the exceptional humane and religious character of St. Ignatius of Loyola, converted nowadays into a universal reference.

From soldier to founder
of the Society of Jesus

Universal Saint

Ignatius of Loyola was beatified in the year 1609 and canonized on 12 March, 1622.

The commemorative acts of the 450 anniversary of the St. Ignatius’s death will take place in Loiola between 29 June and 3 September, 2006.

In the year 2006, the fifth centenary of the birth of St. Francis Xavier in Navarre and Pedro Fabro in Saboya is also celebrated.

Xavier and Pedro shared home and studies with Ignatius in Paris ten years before the foundation of the Society of Jesus and they were the first companions in the cause of Ignatius of Loyola.
